When IBM decided to re-enter the network printer market, they chose to maintain a strong focus on core competencies (product R&D, sales and marketing) and rely upon an outsourcing partner to optimize and operate the business unit's supply chain.
IBM did not wish to make significant up-front capital investments or complex realignments to in-house operations. Rather, they elected to leverage a proven, credible business partner that could design and deliver a high-performance operations model that could be deployed in record time.
IBM defined this ideal partner as one that could optimize critical inventory management, product distribution, logistics and customer service processes while enhancing the business unit's profitability.
IBM required more than a traditional 3PL – they needed a partner that could realign an entire business division's operations model from both a technology and process standpoint, while driving efficiencies, maximizing service levels and extending significant cost savings throughout the supply chain.
PFSweb designed and deployed the operations and technology infrastructure required to support this critical business initiative. Today, PFSweb manages the worldwide distribution of IBM printer supplies and ensures the following processes operate efficiently every day: real-time inventory warehousing & management, product fulfilment & logistics, reverse logistics, customer contact management, revenue generation through sales & marketing services and financial services (billing and collections)
"PFSweb has provided worldwide infrastructure since the launch of IBM Printing Systems division's workgroup printer line, providing value within our business model, which relies heavily on outsourcing. Our contract extension with PFSweb is a critical part of our strategy to grow the IBM printing supplies product line.”
Joseph Johns Business Line Executive IBM Printing Systems
